Vision and Direction for OFMOS®

Where the family of games and simulations is headed — and the principles guiding its development

1. The Vision
A Family of Games That Develops the Strategic Thinking the World Needs Most

The OFMOS® family exists to close a gap that has been widening for three decades: the gap between the growing demand for genuine strategic thinking and the declining supply of tools that actually develop it. Every title in the family is built on the same patented core mechanics, grounded in the same two foundational theories, and designed to be a compelling game first and a powerful learning tool second — because that sequence is what makes the learning stick.

The long-term vision is a complete ecosystem: a spectrum of tabletop games spanning from thematic to simulation, strategy learning solutions structured by the Five Scales of the Business Big Picture, detailed Learning Guides for each scale, facilitation tools, and digital experiences — all grounded in a single theoretical foundation and all accessible to anyone who wants to think more strategically about the world.

2. The Thematic-to-Simulation Tabletop Spectrum
One Set of Core Mechanics, a Range of Strategic Depth

The tabletop games in the OFMOS® family are arranged along a functional spectrum from thematic to simulation. Each title shares the same patented core mechanics. Each occupies a different position on the spectrum. Each is a complete game.

Mushroom Gangs™ — the thematic end. The same core mechanics wrapped in a playful visual world. No business context required. The most accessible entry point for families and younger players.

OFMOS® Essential — the center of the spectrum. A compact, abstract strategy game that bridges the thematic and simulation registers. The first game in the family to reach production. The foundation on which all other titles build.

OFMOS® Classic — one step toward simulation. More strategic depth than Essential, with richer mechanics and a longer arc.

OFMOS® Professional — further along the spectrum. Eighteen products, portfolio evolution mechanics, dice-driven probability, and the logic of organizational learning. Designed for professional and executive contexts. The original vision for the OFMOS® tabletop experience.

OFMOS® Academic — the simulation end. The most rigorous tabletop experience in the family. Designed for graduate and research-oriented academic contexts, with explicit emphasis on probabilistic thinking and portfolio-level judgment.

OFMOS® CTE — a separate development. A digital, continuous-time experience built for Career and Technical Education programs. The only non-tabletop title in the family.

All titles except OFMOS® Essential and the 99 Prototypes Edition are currently in development.

3. The Principles behind the Tabletop Family
What Guides Every Design Decision

Game first, simulation second. Every title in the family must be worth playing on its own terms, without any business context. The learning follows from the playing — not the other way around.

One theoretical foundation. Every game in the family is a structural expression of the same two foundational theories. The mechanics are not loosely inspired by business concepts — they are derived from them. This is what makes the games genuine simulations rather than themed activities.

Progressive complexity. The family is designed so that players can enter at any point on the spectrum and move in either direction. Each title is complete on its own. Each also prepares the player for the next.

Physical medium by design. The tabletop games are physical by design, not by default. The board makes the strategic logic fully visible. The social setting creates shared cognitive intensity. The facilitator can observe and guide. These are features of the medium, not limitations.

4. What Comes Next
The Game, the Framework, and a Growing Ecosystem

OFMOS® Essential is the first published game in the family. The 99 Prototypes Edition — handcrafted, numbered, and signed — is available now. The main edition will be released in 2026 and will be launched with a crowdfunding campaign to be announced soon.

The Five Scales of the Business Big Picture — the independent framework built on the foundational theories — is being published alongside the main edition of OFMOS® Essential. Together, the game and the framework mark the foundation of the ecosystem described in this vision: a game that develops strategic thinking through experience, and a framework that structures that development across five scales of the business big picture.

Development continues across the family. Mushroom Gangs™, OFMOS® Classic, OFMOS® Professional, OFMOS® Academic, and OFMOS® CTE are all in progress at various stages. Each will be announced as it approaches production. Strategy learning solutions for educators and facilitators, developed around the OFMOS® family and structured by the Five Scales of the Business Big Picture, are operational with OFMOS® Essential. Detailed Learning Guides for each scale are in development.
